Press release from Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission: New MACPASS customer account system provided by VESystems, LLC.
February 18 marked a significant milestone in the evolution of MACPASS – the launch of a new MACPASS customer account system.
Over the weekend the final cut-over and testing of the new system, provided by VESystems LLC, was conducted to ensure a smooth and successful transition from the old system to the new system. “With any system change you would anticipate a few glitches, but there were none to speak of and this transition went even smoother than could have been expected and much of the credit belongs to the staff,” says Craig Paul, MACPASS and Information Systems Manager.
Special mention of the dedication and professionalism of the team at VESystems LLC, with their ability to successfully deliver the application six weeks earlier than originally scheduled, also deserves much recognition.
This is the biggest change to MACPASS in its 10 year history and a very busy time for the MACPASS staff. Cheryl Kempton, MACPASS Customer Service Center Supervisor reports, “We normally have two representatives work all day long but today we needed all five. One indication about how busy they are is that on a typical day the MACPASS customer service representatives issue between 35-55 MACPASS transponders. Yesterday they processed 148 transponders.
We are also preparing for the May 1 launch date of the new axle-based toll collection system with the Chief Warrant Officers and MacKay Control Room Shift Supervisors completing the initial training. According to Site Manager, John Martin, “The introductory course provided a simple explanation of the computer software used to display the plaza, toll booth operator's panel and how the system collects the money. We won’t have any problems with the new toll collection operating system with the computer software system.”
“Embracing the change and managing the constant demands placed upon staff during the transition is truly a remarkable talent and I wish to extend my sincere appreciation for the staff’s dedication,” concludes Craig.
